ACFOLA Youth Digital Storytelling

Unearthing the Story of African Community in London.

ACFOLA, funded by the Government of Ontario, is pleased to announce that it is going to start a youth project entitled “Unearthing the Story of African Community in London.”
This project will engage the youth (Grade 9-12) in story gathering, interviewing and editing using digital media to curate stories that merit wider audience. There are so many African stories of achievements that show overcoming of successive odds and obstacles that need to be unearthed and shared within the African Community and the society at large. To do this, there is no better way than involving the youth, the next generation, especially at the high school age bracket, to implement this project. This project would give the youth a close-up knowledge and experience of the lived and surmounted challenges by great African achievers. The project will result in the development of important skills that encompass, planning, organizing, critical thinking, communicating, writing, presenting, interviewing and editing using the medium of digital media. We are confident the youth would grab this opportunity and the ones that are screened for this project will be compensated fairly for their time with some stipend.

Now we call all our members and supporters to encourage the youth to apply for this project.

In addition, we ask all members (association and individuals) to identify VOLUNTEER INTERVIEWEES who have exemplary stories, stories of success against all odds, to be interviewed by the youth. The volunteer interviewees are the achievers–women, business-owners, professionals, athletes, executives, students, seniors, scholars and others– within our communities. Let us identify them and share and document their unique stories.

Please send your interests to info@acfola.ca with the subject line DIGITAL STORYTELLING.

Deadline for Youth applicants is November 20, 2017.
Deadline for Volunteer Interviewees is November 25, 2017.
